What is the Golden Retriever?

The Golden Retriever was first recognized by the AKC IN
1925. It originated in England and Scotland in the 19th
Century. The Golden Retriever is a member of the Sporting
Group of dogs. Its original purpose was for retrieving game
birds on land and water. The Golden Retriever's physical
characteristics and its willing, adaptable, trainable nature has
made it very useful in many other endeavors. It is used in
assistance, therapy and rescue work. Goldens compete in
field, agility and obedience competition. They have become
one of the most gentle, intelligent and adaptable breeds
used as assistance and therapy dogs for the handicapped.

The Golden Retriever is one of the most popular breeds of
all time. They have earned and deserve this reputation
because of their great beauty, extreme loyalty, outstanding
intelligence and loving and gentle temperament.

The Golden Retriever is the ideal family companion dog. It is
very comfortable with both the young and the old. It will play
enthusiastically and than lay quietly on you lap or at your
feet. A Golden will win your affection and change your life. It
is a wonderful and remarkable breed.
